A friend recommended the Born Allan. Not my normal style, but I'm trying to expand/adapt to another style. Very pleased. Out of the box I wore these for an evening outing. It was 4 hrs w/o socks, and they were perfectly comfortable w/o and prior break in.I wear a custom orthotic that is 3/4 length of the shoe bed, and the shoe works fine with it.They are fine.the vamp is way too loose on this shoe. i have the right size for the length of my foot, but this shoes does not give a nice snug feel. i have to work at it to keep it from falling off. i may try to put some tongue pads in to snug it up. not the quality i expected from Born.Fit perfect.Driving and around the houseI have 2 pair of these, different colors and will buy again. Very well made, very comfortable. In Brief...Sizing: length is correct, width is narrower than expectedColor: Cookie Dough is a photoshopped copy of Navy. The true color is a medium and neutral brown. There has been much written about sizing. Shoe sizes vary from brand to brand, just like any other article of clothing. For me, 80% of the shoes I own are 9.5 (Men's US). That's the size I ordered and the they fit perfectly, in the length. The width is a bit narrow, and I have a narrow foot. Medium width is usually too wide for me, but that's what I order and I can certainly see how a true medium wearer would find these to be too tight. Fortunately, at least for the shoes I received, The leather, which does not feel like top grain hide, due to its stiffness, actually does soften and stretch to mold over the foot after a few hours of wear in a warm humid environment. These are never going to fit as luxuriously as a pair of Clark's chamois driving moccasins, but they're not going to feel as fragile either. They seem tuff enough to withstand everyday casual use while giving the foot ample protection. The only negative I can find is in the advertising. It's completely obvious that the shoe labeled "cookie dough" and the shoe labeled "Navy" are actually the exact same image. The navy shoe is the original and the cookie dough shoe was "photoshopped" to alter the color. (Sure seems like it would be easier to just take another picture.) The color in the ad is way off. The real color, is called "tan", that is what is printed on the box. It is medium toned and the "browness" is neither red nor orange in hue, a very neutral brown. But I knew before I ordered them because I had seen them in person in a department store. However, I had passed over these shoes numerous time on Amazon because the color is very off putting to my eye. Had I known the true color, I would have purchased these months ago.Labeled "lobster color," these are comfortable, ultra lightweight leather shoes, even if they're more red than crustacian. I started with the $20 plastic ones, moved up to the better fitting but heavier and hotter Italian slip-ons (Skechers), and finally spotted this unfamiliar brand. The shoes are durable, serviceable, yet you'll scarcely know you're wearing them. Don't judge all of this maker's shoes but size alone. I also ordered the same size and brand but in perforated brown (Nubuck 9.5). On these my right heel keeps slipping out, making them impractical for long walks outside. Perhaps the pair "Born" of lobster are more precisely cut than those torn from buck-hide.They are wider than a loafer should be. They wear like sandals falling off at the heal when walking. I find they also scuff easily.
